Kelela Unveils Sultry New Track 'Blue Light'
publish date: 2017-10-05
Kelela will unleash her debut album, Take Me Apart, on Friday (Oct. 6) via Warp and has already teased what's to come on the 14-track effort with previously released cuts "LMK" and "Frontline." On Thursday (Oct. 5), the singer visited Beats 1 Radio with Ebro Darden to premiere another cut off the album titled "Blue Light."
Known for her love of ambient, dreamy soundscapes, Kelela's breathy, gentle voice floats atop the atmospheric melody as soft drums creep in. The singer injects futuristic synths and warped vocals into the mix as she sings "Begging your pardon/ I told myself I needed time but my discipline is slipping/ Head first, 'cause baby with your love around I could save the world."
Speaking to Ebro about "Blue Light," Kelela said the song is "about the moment when you break up with people after you’re single; you’re sort of in this moment where you’re like, ‘I’m not doing anything serious. I’m not trying to get into anything deep. Gotta like take it slow. Not trying to do that.’ And then you hit this point when you’re with somebody where you’re like, ‘Fuck it, blue light.'"
The "Waitin'" crooner is currently on her Take Me Apart Tour and will conclude her North America trek on Nov. 21 in Houston before heading overseas until the end of January 2018.
